WHO: Bird flu research raises safety questions
H5N1 rarely infects humans and usually only those who come into close contact with poultry. But among those infected, up to 60 percent die, and scientists are closely watching the virus for any signs it is becoming more easily transmissible from human to human.
The U.S. National Institutes of Health last week asked scientists at Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands and the University of Wisconsin-Madison to refrain from publishing full details of their work on how to make the H5N1 virus more easily transmissible between humans.
Fukuda said WHO itself had had not obtained the results of the two groups' research yet, and might not even ask for it.

Ukraine's jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko kept under 24-hour camera surveillance with lights permanently ON
Ukraine's opposition leader is being held in a prison cell under 24-hour camera surveillance with lights permanently on in an attempt to 'psychologically and physically break' her, her lawyer said today.
At least the "Russians" are 'honest' about it ...a bit ...
In a statement, Ivan Pervushkin, head of the prison said: "Video surveillance is not forbidden by law.
In order to carry out permanent video monitoring there has to be sufficient light in the cells", Yahoo News reported.
Bradley Manning, who is in jail, like Julian Assange is now too (WikiLeaks) ... remember him?

Mysterious phenomenon that has decimated honey bee populations across the globe linked to parasitic fly
It was first recognised as a serious problem by U.S. beekeepers in 2006, but has also affected bee colonies across western Europe.
In some of the recorded cases, bee losses have reached levels of up to 90 per cent.
Viral and fungal infections and toxic chemicals in pesticides have all been suggested as possible explanations for CCD.
The new theory involves the parasitic fly Apocephalus borealis, which is already known to attack bumble bees.
